Cognitive Development

Cognitive development involves the mental processes that enable a child to learn, think, reason, solve problems, and understand the world around them. This includes skills like attention (such as focusing on a multi-step activity), memory (recalling a story or routine), language development (expressing ideas through storytelling or conversation), reasoning (figuring out how to build a stable block tower), and abstract thinking (understanding that numbers represent quantity or that symbols can carry meaning).

This covers the physical growth and milestones children reach as they develop, including fine motor skills like holding a pencil, gross motor skills such as running and jumping, improving coordination, building strength, and maintaining overall health and wellness.

Cultural development is how children learn about and connect with their cultural heritage, traditions, and values. For example, participating in family celebrations helps children build a strong cultural identity and understand diversity.

Parent's Role

Educator's Role

The educator plays a key role as a learning facilitator and partner, actively recognizing and supporting many opportunities for a child’s growth, such as guiding exploration during hands-on activities.

Documentation

To understand children and their learning styles, teachers carefully document all aspects of the learning process.
